Take Back the Tech!i is a collaborative campaign that looks at the connection between information and communication technologies (ICTi) and violence against womeni.

The campaign calls on all ICT users – especially women and girls – to take control of technology and strategically use any ICT platform at hand (mobile phones, instant messengers, blogis, websites, digital cameras, emaili, podcasts and more) for activism against gender-based violence.

Take Back the Tech! accompanies the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender iViolence (November 25 – December 10 each year) with one action per day to end violence against women. Beyond the 16 days campaign, “Take Back The Tech!” responds to current alerts and events , including International Women’s Day, World Press Freedom day, or the “Stop Cyberbullying” initiative by blogiger-networks.

The campaign was initiated by the Association for Progressive Communicationsi' Women's Networking Support Programmei (APC WNSP) in 2006. Since then, the campaign has been taken up, adapted and owned by individuals, groups, networks and organizations all over the world. Campaigners have taken action and initiated local Take Back The Tech! campaigns in Argentina, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Brazil, Cambodia, Canada, the Congo, DRC, Germany, India, Macedonia, Mexico, Malaysia, Pakistan, Philippines, South Africa, Uganda, UK, Uruguay, USA, and more!

Campaigners have created, adapted and shaped actions that resonate with priorities and platforms in their contexts, including hands-on workshops, media monitoring, digital storytelling, creating video shorts, conducting film screenings, SMS campaigns, mural painting, theatre productions, solidarity marches and more.

In 2011, Take Back the Tech! launched its online mapping platform to document technology-related violence against women.
