Drawing on findings from APC's MDG3i: Take Back the Tech!i project with women's rightsi organisations in twelve countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America, this paper explores the links between the interneti, cell phones and violence against womeni and illustrates that technology related violence impacts women as seriously as other forms of violence.

The World Association for Christian Communication (WACC) promotes communication for social change. It has corporate and personal members in 120 countries.

On 10 November 2009, the news media came under scrutiny in 108 countries. Trained volunteers from women's rightsi organizations, media professional associations, and universities monitored the representation of women and men and gender iportrayal in their local news media. The GMMP Report 2010 reveals what they found. The 2010 GMMP is the first to address women in the online news media.

 

Taller Permanente de la Mujer association

The association Taller Permanente de la Mujer is a non governmential organization dedicated to advocating the rights of women in Argentina. It began its work in 1988, addressing issues such as health, population, reproductive rights, domestic violence, work and culture. It operates the Women's Bookstore, one of 62 libraries in the world specializing in books and writings “by” and “for” women. Taller Permanente de la Mujer is a national country partner in the “MDG3i: Take Back The Tech!ii to end violence against womeni” project.

WomenAction 2000

WomenAction 2000, a global network of women's information and media organisations, was formed to ensure world access to the decisions made during the UN Special Session of the General Assembly (Beijing Plus 5) entitled “Women 2000: Gender Equalityi, Development and Peace for the 21st Century” in New York, 5-9 June 2000. The network members included African Gender Institute (South Africa), ALAI (Ecuador), APC Women's Networkingi Support, Programme, Asian-Pacific Women's Information Network Center (Korea), IIAV (Netherlands), International Women's Tribune Center (USA), ISIS International, Les Penelopes (France), Women'sNet (South Africa) and many others. The main mission of WomenAction 2000 was to be a global information, communication and media network that enables civil society to actively engage in the Beijing+5 review and contribute to women's empowermenti, with a special focus on women and media.

Agenda Feminist Media Project

The Agenda Feminist Media Project was founded in 1987. It began as a journal, the initiative of a small group of women activists and academics working in and around Durban. The project has developed over the years to include four programmes - journal, radio programme, writing programme and internships - and a website.

World Association for Christian Communication Women's Programme

WACC Women's Programme advocates full and equal participation of women in public communication so that it is enriched by women's distinctive needs, insights and experiences.

Grupo Origem

The ORIGEM is a non-profit civil society association created with the objective to promote and defend breast-feeding. It also provides training in ICTs for women and men in its community telecenter. Origem has created the project Digital Via Lactea, through which community groups working to promote breast-feeding are being trained to use ICTs in order to express and foster their work and be articulated as a network.

Feminist International Radio Endeavour (FIRE)

Provides live Interneti and recorded broadcast listings on international Women's issues - themes include neo-liberal policies, women's human rightsi, the environment, racism, disabilities, militarism, sexualities, education, arts and culture. FIRE’s feminist perspective is not simply about 'women’s rights'; it is about raising women’s voices and perspectives on all issues - voices that are not only absent but are actively silenced and excluded from global debates.

Modem Mujer

Women's Communication Network dedicated to give visibility to initiatives, proposals and actions of people and organizations - especially women organizations - that develope their activities taking into account the gender perspective.
