Gender Perspectives in ICT

Presented to the plenary of the 47 session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) in March 2003, this paper prepared by Chat Garcia Ramilo, WNSP-Asia Pacific Regional Coordinator, offers an overview of gender and ICT issues as well as the principal concerns analysed in the expert group meeting (EGM) on “Information and communication technologies and their impact on and use as an instrument for the advancement and empowerment of women”, Korea, of 2002. The paper highlights EGM outcomes and recommendations, and also emphasizes the importance of urgent gender advocacy in the WSIS process.
