Gulbakhor Makhkamova
Gulbakhor Makhkamova is the founder and Chair of the Board of the Trustees of the Gulrukhsor Crisis Center and Shelter, Tajikistan. She is also the founder and leader of the National Association of Business Women of Tajikistan (NABWT), Gulbakhor has played a pivotal role in helping thousands of women escape poverty, gain economic independence, and establish themselves as role models in the business community. She holds a Ph.D. in Gender and Science, a Master’s degree in Finance and Banking, and an MBA. She has conducted extensive research on women’s rights and economic opportunities in Tajikistan, with over 20 published academic articles and four monographs. Her research is rooted in feminist principles, emphasizing women's lived experiences and structural power imbalances. Most of her work focuses on women’s economic empowerment, social barriers to women's full participation, and women's use of technology in finance. Her advocacy extends to policy changes in the financial sphere, combating violence against women, and empowering women in business.
