Technology Facilitated Gender Based Violence

The internet has become a mirror of women's grim reality in Africa, where they are subjected to various forms of violence daily. Chioma Agwuegbo discusses the situation of online gender based violence in the continent while envisioning a different reality that secures the digital futures of African women and girls.

Through an actionable research roadmap, the project seeks to address knowledge gaps in understanding perpetrators of online gender-based violence.

Members of the network will undertake a feminist internet research that provides substantial evidence to drive change in policy and law and in the discourse around internet rights. The broader objective is to ensure that the needs of women, and gender diverse and queer people are considered in internet policy discussions and decision-making.

GenderIT, along with Noor and Take Back The Tech, organised a discussion with six Palestinian feminist activists, researchers, academics and content creators to discuss how Israel weaponises gendered disinformation and atrocities propaganda to continue its genocide in Palestine.

Regulating new digital dangers can be challenging. This is especially true when they are unforeseeable at the time of drafting the policy.
